New Orleans

Last weekend was the annual geek recording conference that used to be called Tape Op Con, this year renamed Pot Luck Audio Conference. Like last year I moderated a panel on Pro Tools, which went well. I was excited to share the panel with none other than the best plug-in maker ever, Steven Massey.

But enough about the boring stuff, even more awesome than the Pot Luck Conference was New Orleans itself. Here are a few photos from my short lived, but awesome site-seeing and eating adventures.

This is the St. Louis Cathedral, est. 1720, in Jackson Square, the heart of the French Quarter.

Puglisi and I ventured to the St. Louis Cemetary No. 1, one of the oldest above ground cemetaries in the country. The place was definitely haunted. If you remember the scene in Easy Rider when they take a lot of acid and are at a cemetery? This is the one.

An empty grave.

Jah.

The food was incredible. The search for the best fried oyster Po'Boy sandwich took us to some out-of-the-way places but it was worth it.

The best Po' Boys were had at Parasols, which came recommended by this guy.
We had to deal with some very drunk locals to hang in this place, but once Caddy Shack started playing on on of the 9 TVs, we could ignore the slot machine noises and really get into these roast beef and fried oyster Po' Boys.

Ernie K Doe, Mother in Law.

One night I went out of the way to this old crazy bar formerly owned by legendary blues and gospel singer Ernie K-Doe. The place is called the Mother-in-Law Lounge and once they buzz you in, theres all kinds of memorabilia there to scope. One of the bartenders had made some incredible seafood and sausage gumbo so I chilled in the backyard of the bar with my Abita and listened to the tunes pour out of the Jukebox.

Back in the Quarter, I was blown away by the iron work on some of these balconies.

Treehouse Weekend

Some images from Lulu's magical treehouse. Memorial Day marked the beginning of summer and this was the first gathering of the season.
